Profile Jonathan Palmer studied composition with Andrew Byrne at Reading University in the late 1960s, and later under Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Having been a Director of Music for 35 years in various schools he decided to retire in 2007 in order to concentrate on his composition and is now a part-time research student, reading for a PhD in Composition at the University of Bristol. He is also known as a conductor, double bass teacher and performer.
