Have you ever thought of composing for a brass band? Do you have any compositions that you would love to hear played live? Show off your talent by taking part in Edinburgh University Brass Band's annual composition competition this year! We will be playing the winning composition in our Spring concert, as well as having a rehearsal dedicated to playing through all the submissions (which composers can come and watch!) Main Information We would like you to write us a chorale or hymn-like piece for us to play at our Spring Concert. The deadline for the submission is MONDAY 20th JANUARY 2020 at NOON. Two bound paper copies of the score and 1 set of printed separate parts should be dropped off before this deadline, at the front desk of the EUSA Activities Office at Potterrow. If you are unable to get to the dropbox in person please post your entry to: EU Brass Band, c/o EUSA, 5/2 Bristo Square, Edinburgh EH8 9AL Please fill in and attach a copy of the submission form that you can find at the end of this document. Please send a digital recording via email to eubrassband@gmail.com, or drop one off with the scores, clearly labelled. If either of these is impossible for some reason, get in touch with us (via email or facebook). The anonymity of the composer/arranger will be maintained throughout the selection process. The pieces should be · composed specifically for Brass Band · playable by a medium level amateur band · enjoyable to play and listen to · between 3 and 5 minutes ideally but no more than 5 minutes long Judging criteria · idiomatic writing for brass band · successful application of compositional techniques/devices · successful motif (melodic, harmonic or rhythmic, etc.) · originality · clarity in communication of the piece's ideas All eligible entries will be played in a rehearsal before the final decision is made. Composers will be invited to listen to their pieces played at this rehearsal. The Winner will get two free tickets to see their composition performed live at EUBB’s Spring Concert 2020.
