Details: The 21st International Chopin and Friends Festival and Four Corners Ensemble proudly announce the Second International “New Vision” Composition Competition. Submitted compositions will be judged by a screening panel of: Jakub Polaczyk (composer and pianist, New Music Director of Festival Chopin and Friends, faculty at the New York Conservatory of Music), Reza Vali (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh), Shuying Li (Artistic Director of Four Corners Ensemble, Research Faculty at Shanghai Conservatory of Music), and members of Four Corners Ensemble (Erika Boysen, flute, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro; Joshua Anderson, clarinet, Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada-Reno; and Annie Jeng, piano, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro).

This year's edition of the festival is focused on the father of polish opera- Stanislaw Moniuszko and compositions should relate to some of the themes used in this music: love, daily life, faith, or related to the any national or folklore syndrome in the music. Two winning works will each receive $300 cash prize as well as a performance by guest singers and the Four Corners Ensemble at the Polish Consulate General-New York City on November 21, 2019.

There will be 2 categories:

1) with voice (mezzo soprano, soprano and/or baritone with ensemble)

2) without voice, instruments only.

Submission Guidelines

Eligibility:
Eligible composers are those who are in the early to middle stages of developing an international career and for whom this prize would represent a significant career opportunity. Submitted works may have received premieres or/and performances in the past.

Instrumentation:
soprano, mezzo-soprano, baritone; flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano.
Compositions may be scored for any subsets of the instrumentation listed (flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano) from solo to sextet but category with voice must include voice and at least one instrument.

Length:
Compositions may not exceed 10 minutes in length.

Materials for Submission:
Applications will only be accepted via email to fourcornersensemble@gmail.com.

Composers must include the following materials as email attachments:
• Cover letter (PDF or MS Word format) that includes applicant’s name, address, phone number, and email, plus the title, duration, and year of the composition entered.
• Artistic resumé or CV
• Full score (PDF format only, do not include parts): composer’s name should not be on the score, as scores will be reviewed anonymously.
• Receipt of application fee submission.

It is strongly encouraged that composers also include these additional materials in their application:
• Audio recording of the piece (MP3 preferable, though MIDI rendering is acceptable)
• Program notes

Fee:
$20 each composition. Composers may submit up to 3 works each person. Payment accepted online via PayPal paid to as well as the payment link shown below. Please send your receipt to fourcornersensemble@gmail.com and include "New Vision Competition/applicant’s name" in the subject line.

Judging:
A panel of judges will choose two winning compositions as First Prizes, to be awarded $300 cash prize each, and to be performed by the Four Corners Ensemble at the “New Vision” concert on November 21st, 2019 at the Polish Consulate General - New York City; additional prizes will also be awarded with certificates, and all winning works will be included in the Four Corners Ensemble’s potential repertoire for future programming.

It is strongly preferred that the first prize winners be presented at the rehearsals and at the performance. However, the committee at this time cannot provide financial support towards airfare and accommodation for travel arrangements occurred.

Deadline:
Submissions must be time-stamped by October 1, 2019, 11:59pm EST. Winners will be announced by October 15, 2019.
