Summary:St Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork, Republic of Ireland seeks new work

Details: This award is for the commission of a new sacred work for the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Organ.

The new work will be premiered at the opening Festival Service of the 150th anniversary year on Sunday 29th November 2020 at 4pm in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, giving the composer a platform to showcase their talent.

The work will also be recorded by the Cathedral Choir on their new CD,
which will be produced earlier in the year and launched on Friday 25th September, 2020.

• Entry is open to anyone.
• Entrants must set the Evensong Canticles ‘Magnificat’ and ‘Nunc dimittis’ in English and scored for SATB choir (with soprano divisi only, if deemed necessary) and an independent organ part. The texts are included at the end of this document and are in the original Book of Common Prayer translation.
• The work must be original and contain a written guarantee that it is solely the work of the composer.
• The work should not have been performed either in concert or service, or recorded commercially or privately.
• The panel reserves the right not to award the prize.
• In all matters relating to the competition the decision of the panel is final and is not open to appeal.
• Scores are sent at entrants’ own risk. We cannot acknowledge receipt of scores nor return any material submitted.
• Scores may be submitted by hard copy (three copies of each piece) by post, or as a pdf by email.
• A completed application form must accompany each entry.
• Entries must be submitted by 5.00pm on Friday 29th November 2019.
• €2,000 will be awarded to the winning composer.
• Only one application per composer will be accepted.
• The winning composer will retain the copyright of the commissioned work.
