Date Posted: 19 June 2019
Details: PRS Foundation and the Steve Reid Foundation today announce that the next deadline for the STEVE REID INNOVATION AWARD is Thursday 8th August 2019.

The initiative provides an opportunity for emerging artists that make outstanding music to receive support in the form of:

· a grant of up to £1,500 to assist with creative goals and career development
· mentoring from an experienced, successful working artist (i.e. a trustee or friend of the Steve Reid Foundation)

It is open to anyone based in the UK who writes and performs their own music and is currently unsigned and unmanaged.

Applicants must simply submit links to their music as well as a three-minute video which explains their career to date, and how funding and mentoring would help with their creative development. Artists can apply from today via:
with the final deadline for submissions of Thursday 8th August 2019 (6pm).

The announcement follows hugely successful alumni from years one and two: Lady Vendredi, Moses Boyd, Hector Plimmer, Sarathy Korwar, Nubya Garcia, Femi Koleoso (Ezra Collective), Ola Szmidt, The Little Unsaid and Wu-Lu.

The Steve Reid Foundation was set up by Gilles Peterson, Brownswood Records and a collective of Trustees who worked closely with and were inspired by legendary jazz drummer, Steve Reid. Steve’s musical career was marked by innovation, experimentation and breaking frontiers and he is well known for his work with Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sun Ra and Kieran Hebden (Four Tet).

PRS Foundation is an obvious partner for the Steve Reid Foundation because of its long-standing commitment to supporting new music and artist development across all genres.

Gilles Peterson, DJ and founder of Steve Reid Foundation said,
“I am proud to see such talented young musicians coming through and to be able to support them and contribute in some way to their development.”

Joe Frankland, Senior Grants and Programmes Manager, PRS Foundation said,

“Offering grant support and extra mentoring opportunities alongside Steve Reid Foundation has enabled us to unearth some of the finest new talent in the UK. Many have built longer-term relationships with PRS Foundation and our partners and all have achieved industry recognition and credible acclaim. We’re looking for the next generation of exciting talent and can’t wait to hear what’s out there.”

Supported music creator Femi Koleoso said,
“The Steve Reid Innovation Award is amazing. Winning it changed my career. Not just because of the amazing opportunity to press vinyl and the financial benefits, but because most importantly it provided a network of people that gave me a helping hand whenever I needed advice in my career - a network of people still helping me in my career today.”
