Details: In honor of our 80th anniversary season, the Celebration Singers of Cranford, NJ are pleased to announce our first choral commission competition. The winning work will be premiered at the Celebration Singers spring concert during the weekend of May 31st and June 1st, 2019. The theme of the concert is “Folk Music,” so the work should reflect that theme in some way. The work may be an arrangement of a folk song, provided the song is in the public domain.

Format
· The work must be written for SATB choir (A Cappella or with keyboard accompaniment).
· Smaller, portable percussion instruments are allowed.
· The text should be in English.
· The work should be roughly 3-5 minutes in duration.
· The work must not have been previously published, awarded in previous composition competitions, or publicly performed.

Materials
· Score in PDF format.
· Resume/CV in PDF format.
· Written confirmation that the song and/or text of the work are in the public domain, or written permission from the author to use the text (if the author is not the composer) in PDF format.
· Program notes in PDF format (optional).
· Live or MIDI recording in MP3 format (optional).

Application Fee
· There is no fee to apply.

Guidelines’
· The competition is open to composers of any age or nationality.

Deadline
· Online Application: February 22, 2019 by 11:59pm EST.
· Result Announcement: Mid-late March.

Rights
· The winning work cannot be submitted for future composition competitions.
· Copyright will be retained by the composer.

Judging
Compositions will be judged by a panel comprised of the Celebration Singers adult and youth choir directors and board members. A small selection of finalists will be voted on by the choir.

Awards
The composer of the winning work will be awarded $300. The winning work will be premiered at the Celebration Singers spring concert during the weekend of May 31st and June 1st, 2019. We would love to have the composer attend the concert, but we will not be able to reimburse travel or lodging expenses.
