Details: The Midwest Music Research Collective (MMRC) is pleased to announce its first call for scores for its 2019 Spring Symposium. The symposium will consist of interdisciplinary paper presentations, a lecture from our guest composer (TBD), and will culminate with a concert of new compositions by students of any age and level studying in the USA.

-Time and Place: April 13, 2019. Lawrence, Kansas, USA
-Fee: None
-Compensation: Unfortunately, there is no funding to cover travel costs or for labor compensation. Composers are strongly encouraged to attend the symposium but are not required to.
-Who can apply: Any student currently studying in the USA. Composers from Kansas and adjacent states are strongly encouraged to apply. Undergraduates, women, POC, and LGBTQ+ folks are strongly encouraged to apply.
-Instrumentation for submissions:
I. Composer provided performers/ensembles strongly encouraged
II. Compositions for live performer and electronics are welcome (stereo playback available)
III. Compositions for 1-4 of the following instruments:
a. Clarinet (soprano and bass)
b. Euphonium
c. Mezzo-Soprano voice
d. Tenor voice
e. Percussion - Choose from no more than six of the following for single or multi-instrument works.
1. Claves
2. Triangle
3. Tambourine
4. No more than three cymbals:
a. Crash, Hi-hats, Ride, Suspended, China, and Splash Cymbals
5. Udu Drum (small, standard clay LP claytone)
6. Djembe
7. Woodblock
8. Cowbell
9. Brake Drum
10. Cajon
11. Kick Drum
12. Snare Drum
13. 2 Toms
14. Egg Shakers
15. Caxixi
-Deadline: January 22nd, 2019
-Submissions: Send streaming audio links (YouTube, SoundCloud, etc. [MIDI OK]) and PDF scores of completed works to mmrc@ku.edu.
