Regulation

Entre Madeira Trio, with the support of RDP – Antena 2, Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB), AVA – Musical Editions, Câmara Municial de Lisboa, Glosas, Centro Nacional de Cultura e D. Caeiro Lda, announces in 2018 the 1st Competition International Entre Madeiras Trio Composition Competition – Clotilde Rosa Award, as a way to pay homage to the great Portuguese composer Clotilde Rosa (1930-2017).

Application conditions

1. Composers of any nationality and age may compete for the Prize.

2. Applicants may send an unlimited number of scores.

3. The scores in the contest must be exclusive (never before played in public, recorded or published on a disc/commercial score, or that have won any other award until the end of the contest).

4. The scores must be written for a trio of woodwinds (flute, oboe, alto saxophone *), without using electronic devices, and have a total duration (in one or several movements) between 8 ‘and 15’.

5. The scores shall be written in a music program (Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, others), not accepting manuscripts.

Prize
1. The Prize consists of a monetary value of 1000 Euros, the publication of the work, in score, by AVA – Musical Editions (except if the winner has an exclusive contract with another publisher), and a debut premiere of the score by Entre Madeiras Trio. Concomitantly, a art work of the plastic artist João Pedro Santos will be given.

2. The Prize is indivisible, and there can be no ex-aequo

3. The Jury reserves the right not to award the Prize if the quality of the score is considered insufficient.

4. The Jury may, regardless of whether or not the Prize is awarded, grant up to a maximum of 3 Honorable Mentions.

5. The Prize will be awarded on the day of the debut concert of the winning score, to be held on May 16, 2019 at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen auditorium in Centro Cultural de Belém – Lisboa.

6. In addition to the winning composition, if the jury so wishes, the 1st Honorable Mention may also be issued or, in the event that the Prize is not atributed, the 1st and 2nd Honorable Mentions, if granted.

7. Any future executions, editions of the score or CD of the winning work, must include in the program notes the mention “Winning work of the 1st International Entre Madeiras Trio Composition Competition – Clotilde Rosa Prize”.

8. The composers will assign to Entre Madeiras Trio the copyrights related to the debut of the winning work / honorable mentions and to any recordings authorized in this context.

Applications
9. Each competitor, for each score presented, must pay a registration fee of 15 euros, by bank transfer to the account of BANCO CTT with IBAN PT50 0193 0000 1050 3854 7202 1.

10. Applicants must present five (5) copies of each score and one (1) set of their respective instrumental parts, in paper form.

11. Each score should include program notes (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, English or French) and also the total duration.

12. A CD with the synthesized or acoustic audio of the score may be attached if the candidate so wishes (in the latter case, the performance/recording shall be private, excluding any commercial or public concert recordings as determined by point 3 of that regulation).

13. All materials submitted must be submitted anonymously, including the postal order, which must be identified, as well as the musical materials, using a pseudonym.

14. If the candidate sends more than one score for the Prize, he / she must do it in separately, one for each work in the contest.

15. The materials for each score must be sent in a postal envelope, together with a sealed envelope containing the applicant’s ID, photocopy of ID card / citizen card / passport, personal contacts (telephones, e-mail and postal address), proof of transfer of the registration fee and a statement signed by the composer confirming that the composer complies with all the conditions required by the regulation.

The jury will only be aware of the identity of the contestants in case they are awarded, with only the envelopes corresponding to the winners being opened.

Scores must be sent by registered mail to the secretariat of the Prize until de 5th of April of 2019 (date of arrival of the scores. It is recommended that they should be sent with time), to the following address:

Results

16. The results of the Prize will be announced publicly until May 11, 2019, on the websites:

Only the winner or those with Honorable Mentions will be contacted directly.

17. Materials submitted by competitors will not be returned.

18. There shall be no appeal against decisions of the jury. Any missing case in the regulation will be decided by the jury. Any legal dispute shall be resolved in the District of the Lisbon Court, to the exclusion of any other place, and shall be based solely on the Portuguese version of the Prize regulation.
