Forum Wallis Academy for Composition Students 2019 Swiss Contemporary Music Festival Forum Wallis 2019 hosted by IGNM-VS (ISCM Valais Section) announces the Forum Wallis Academy for Composition Students FoWACS. Within the Academy, works for small and medium-sized chamber music ensembles will be analyzed, rehearsed and performed in an exemplary and practice-oriented manner. The tutors are internationally renowned composers, conductors and musicians. June 2019, arrival 2.6., departure 10.6. Concerts: 8th, 9th and 10th June 2019, Leuk Castle Costs: CHF 700 (includes academy fees and accommodation in double rooms 2.-10.6.) Scholarships: IGNM-VS offers up to 5 scholarships (CHF 500 each) and provides letters of recommendation for travel grants upon request. No registration fee. IMPORTANT: In The Subject of the e-mail please write FORUM WALLIS ACADEMY 2019; all required documents (CV, score, letter of motivation) have to be matched into 1 ZIP folder. Submission deadline: 15.1.2019. A jury consisting of 2 members of the IGNM-VS board and Erik Oña (conductor) selects a maximum of 10 participants by 1.3.2019. Only the selected alumni will be notified of the selection (by e- mail). Following up the FoWACS: The Forum Wallis Composer’s Academy is held every year. Former Alumni are encouraged to submit works to be performed within the upcoming academies. Starting in 2020, one work/year will be selected and performed within the academy. Forum Wallis Academy for Composition Students 2019 ACADEMY TIMETABLE (subject to modification) Preparation: By 1.4.2019, 5 scores will be sent to the students (among them at least one reference work of the contemporary repertoire). Each student is assigned one of these works, which they have to prepare in detail. 3.6. 08-12h - Session 1 As a preparation for the rehearsals, Erik Oña points out specific sections of these pieces concerning harmony, rhythm, playing techniques, notation etc. The students are challenged to form their own view about these sections as well as a personal approach how to work on them. 14-17h - Rehearsals 20-22h - Rehearsals 4.6. 09-12h - Rehearsals 14-17h - Rehearsals 20-22h - Composer Talks 5.6. 09-12h - Rehearsals 14-18h - Session II All participants discuss their solutions and experiences together with the conductor and some musicians.
