 HPO Composer Fellowship Program
Summary:Fellowship Program
Deadline: 01 October 2018
Date Posted: 19 September 2018
Details: The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the Ontario Region of the Canadian Music Centre, announces its inaugural Composer Fellowship Program for the 2018-19 season. This program is funded by the RBC Foundation’s Emerging Artist Program. The HPO’s Composer Fellowship program is aimed at connecting early career composers with professionals in the orchestral world to nurture and develop new skills through mentorship and the creation of a new work.

One Ontario-based composer, age 18-28 at time of application, will be chosen to participate in the 2018-19 season. It is highly encouraged that applicants are close enough to travel to Hamilton to take full advantage of the opportunity.

The chosen Composer Fellow will be given a $3000 honorarium for the program and will participate in a number of mentorship activities, working with Music Director Gemma New, Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte, HPO musicians and staff. In addition, the Composer Fellow will write a 5-6 minute work for chamber orchestra to be premiered by the HPO in May 2019 and provided with an archival recording.

Applicant Requirements
o Must be 18-28 years of age at time of application
o Must currently reside in Ontario
o Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
Due to the HPO concert schedule, the Composer Fellow should be available for most of the following dates (please comment if unavailable) in addition to three flexible days to be determined. These specific dates involve concert and event attendance as well as participation in education, seniors and community programming.
