Details: Musicians of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and CSO Mead Composer in Residence Samuel Adams announce a call for scores of new chamber music to be rehearsed, coached by members of International Contemporary Ensemble, and performed by Civic members at Symphony Center in Chicago as part of the New Music Workshop.

Scores submitted for consideration must be no more than fifteen minutes in length, composed within the last ten years (after January 1, 2008), and for an unconducted ensemble that utilizes at maximum the following personnel in any configuration: 1 flute (doubling picc. and/or alto flute), 1 oboe (doubling English horn), 1 clarinet (doubling e-flat and/or bass clarinet), 1 bassoon (doubling contrabassoon), 1 horn, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, 1 tuba, 2 percussion, 1 keyboard, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 bass, and electronics. Chamber music for standard ensembles (e.g. string quartet, brass quintet) as well as for mixed ensemble is welcome.

Composers whose pieces are selected for this workshop will be invited to participate in the final rehearsal and coaching April 20 and 21 and to attend the concert in Buntrock Hall at Symphony Center on Sunday, April 22 at 7 p.m. Composers who participate in a rehearsal, a coaching, and attend the concert will receive an honorarium of $300, and round trip economy airfare on United airlines or a ground transportation reimbursement if travel to Chicago from another city is necessary. Participation in the rehearsals and coaching and attendance at the concert is strongly encouraged although not required. Composers who are unable to be in Chicago for the project may be asked to engage with the musicians through Skype and/or email.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of April 16, 2018, currently residing in the United States of America, and eligible to work in the US.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018.
There is no cost to apply. Upon receipt of the online application, Civic staff will give applicants access to an online Dropbox folder into which must be uploaded by the deadline:
• A completed score of chamber music that meets the eligibility requirements. Only one score per composer may be submitted as application.
• A recordings of the pieces, if available. MIDI realizations are acceptable.
• A PDF cover letter of no more than 500 words that describes the piece submitted as application.
• A PDF of a professional resume.
• A photocopy of a driver’s license or government-issued ID proving date of birth as well as a piece of mail or other official documentation proving residency in the United States of America.
• If applicable for international students and resident aliens, proof of authorization to undertake and be compensated for work in the United States.
