The Listening Artist; Reinvigorating the Art of Reception.

What is the role of listening in civil dialogue, and in our lives as musicians? How is listening manifesting itself in our world? What choices are we exercising in the ways that we listen; in who and what we listen to, and in what we listen for? How might adopting new approaches to listening be transformative?

Composers are invited to submit pieces that reflect an engagement with themes around listening.

New or existing works are welcome. Pieces should be a maximum of 8 minutes in duration, and be scored for up to three (1, 2, or 3) of the following performer’s instrumentation.

Violin
Soprano
Clarinet (in A or Bb)
Cello (previous applications for Upright Bass no longer available)
Flute (piccolo, soprano, alto, bass)
*Vocal capabilites: range can extend down to G3 and vocalist is comfortable with extended vocal techniques, click here for an example.

Pieces will be selected based on clarity of idea and follow-through, technical ability, and thematic confluence. If your piece is not selected for this concert, your piece may be considered by the Victoria Composers Collective for a future concert.

This re-posting of the call is due to an unfortunate technical glitch. We have not been able to recover any of the scores that were submitted to the forwarding address that we set up for the original call for scores. We encourage those who applied previously to resubmit their piece. Please specify on your application if you have submitted to the previous call for scores.
