Workshop proceedings:
Looking for Composers, Musicians, Dancers, and Performance Artists who want to collaborate.

For composers and/or instrumental performers who want to develop a project with dancers/performance artists and for dancers/performance artists who want to develop a project with composers and/or instrumental performers. You can apply as a group already consisting of composers, performers, or dancers, or you can apply individually, in which case we will try to partner you up according to your artistic needs.

You can apply with a specific concept/project, or with a more abstract desire to develop a transdisciplinary collaboration, which then will take shape concretely during the workshops, working through conceptual approaches and practical strategies.

We are especially interested in collaborations in which each of the different media inspires and generates a different approach for the other through close collaboration and experimentation. The focus is on the working process, rather than the finished product.

At the end of the workshop in Darmstadt we will organise a public showing, in which the result or work-in-progress of your collaboration will be presented.

The workshop consists of a working period during the Darmstadt Summer Course: 15 - 28 July 2018 (with a showing on 28 July 2018).

At this stage, we are planning to offer 2-3 hours/day for each group to work independently on their project.
Additionally, we would like to have a communal moment (2 hours) each day, where everyone is present to discuss each other's work and its evolution. This is subject to change and depends on the projects, size of groups, rooms etc.

Partial scholarships for dancers
For dancers, we’ll be granting up to 7 partial scholarships for this project that will consist of a 50% reduction of the participation fee for the Darmstadt Summer Course.

Application
Participants interested in this workshop are asked to submit 1 PDF, 3 pages long maximum. No other file format will be accepted. The PDF should consist of:

– 1 page: tell us about yourself. Include at least 1 and maximum 3 link(s) to (a) representative online video(s) (for dancers) and/or online audio (for composers/performers)

– 1-2 pages: brainstorm of ideas which you would like to try out during the workshop.
The title of the file should contain your name and “DM” to indicate the call, i.e. “Rosaleen_Murphy_DM.pdf” etc.

These don’t need to be concrete proposals for what you will present in the final performance (though they might end up in that piece); we’re simply looking to see how you think.

Clearly mention if there is another participating composer/performer/dancer with whom you already agreed to work with for this project, or if you would want to develop collaboration with (a) participant(s) you haven’t met yet.

Please, send the PDF with all necessary information to:
danceandmusic@internationales-musikinstitut.de

The selection by Stefan Prins and Daniel Linehan will be announced by 30 March 2018.

All selected artists must be registered participants of the Summer Course and will be given preference during registration.

Before you apply, please take note of the Darmstadt Summer Course conditions.
Once you’ve been accepted for the workshop and haven’t yet signed up for the Darmstadt Summer Course, you’ll get a request to do the online booking.

If you want to take part in the Darmstadt Summer Course no matter if you’ll be accepted for this workshop, please sign up as early as possible. Registration and online booking has started and some studios are already booked up.

For composers selected for the workshop, we've reserved a small amount of places.
For the dancers/performance artists however: you first apply to the workshop with all the required material and you pay (50% of the normal fee) only after you've been accepted.
