University of Nebraska at Kearney New Music Festival XVI March 10-11, 2017 The University of Nebraska at Kearney is excited to announce its New Music Festival XVI, being held on March 10-11, 2017 on the UNK campus in Kearney, Nebraska. Deadline for receipt is Monday, October 24, 2016. There is no fee to submit to the festival. If selected, participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodations. Call for Scores: Composers are invited to submit one score of no more than 12 minutes in duration. Works involving electronics, graphic notation, and open instrumentation are welcome. There are three categories for submission: Category 1: We are very excited to welcome members of Atlanta’s Chamber Cartel (www.chambercartel.com) as our guest artists. Chamber Cartel will perform Morton Feldman’s Crippled Symmetry for the final concert of the festival. The three members are also interested in performing works (trios only; no solos or duos) for the following combination: Flute (doubling bass flute as well; other doublings are possible but not guaranteed) Piano Percussion Category 2: UNK Faculty and Student Performers. Solo and chamber scores for subsets of the following instruments and voices: UNK Faculty: Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, Euphonium/Tuba, Piano, Percussion (2), Mezzo-Soprano voice, Baritone voice. UNK Students (all undergraduates): Flute (2), Oboe, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet (2), Trombone, Euphonium/Tuba, Piano (2), Cello (3), Mezzo-Soprano voice. Category 3: Solo and Chamber works where the composer provides the performer or is the performer. This includes fixed media pieces as well. The following should be sent to UNKnewmusic@gmail.com: 1. PDF of one score with the date of composition and duration. 2. An active link to a streaming recording (highly preferred). If no links are available, you may attach a sound file. MIDI files will be accepted. 3. A PDF with the following information: a. Composer’s name, contact information, and a short bio. b. Program notes and performance history for the submitted score. c. Submission category for the submitted score. d. A list of technical/staging needs, if any. We are also accepting proposals for Composer Conversations. Composers are invited to submit, along with their score, one proposal for a 30-minute discussion related to any aspect of composition. Up to 3 proposals will be accepted, and the accepted composers will be expected to lead the discussion on the Saturday of the festival.
