Calls for Embedded Now Open

 Calls for Embedded Now Open
Summary:Two Composer Development Programmes
Deadline: 21 October 2014
Date Posted: 25 September 2014
Details: Embedded is a Sound and Music composer and creative artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of composers from a range of disciplines into extended relationships with leading national arts organisations.

Aimed at talented composers and creative artists at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and a range of significant creative opportunities. So far over thirty composers have benefited from Embedded, and there is overwhelming evidence that it can be a transformational experience in terms of talent development, artistic ambition, professional experience and growing networks. For more information about previous partners and composers involved, please see here.

For our Autumn 2014 Embedded residencies, we are delighted to announce two new partnerships with club inégales and Hampshire Music Service. Please note that these two opportunities have different application deadlines (Wednesday 15 October & Tuesday 21st October 2014).

club inégales is a place of surprises, do not expect the conventional! It’s not a jazz club, not a new music venue, not a comedy club, not a world music venue … but all of these to appear, in an ongoing search for the best of real new, spontaneous performance. The club’s home is an intimate underground bar at Euston, with a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The Institute of Composing is a new think-tank addressing the critical issues of making new music today, of whatever kind, in whatever way, from the viewpoints of composer, performer, audience, writer, promoter, funder, technologist etc. Looking at both underlying craft and important new issues.

As part of the Embedded programme, Sound and Music and club inégales with the Institute of Composing are offering an opportunity for 2 composers to spend a year in residence with the club and the Institute. This residency provides a rich professional development opportunity. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the activities of the club, and to contribute to the Institute’s research and publication strands. The residency provides support and space to develop creative ideas and compositional practice as well as gaining experience in producing live events and collaborating with a wide range of musicians and practitioners.
