|NYOW Young Composers Residency 2014|
|Summary:||Young Composer Residency|
|Deadline:||15 May 2014|
|Date Posted:||08 May 2014|
Following on from the first, highly successful, Young Composers Residency last year; the National Youth Orchestra of Wales will once again run a composers programme alongside this summer’s NYOW residency. Successful applicants will receive tuition in compositional techniques, instrumental writing and analysis of existing repertoire, all delivered by Mark Bowden (Composer in Residence with BBC NOW).|
In addition, composers will have the opportunity to write new music for groups of musicians from within the ranks of the NYOW itself. You will be able to work with some of Wales’ foremost young musicians to develop and rehearse your music before presenting it as pre-concert entertainment during the NYOW concert tour and in stand-alone performances at Aberystwyth MusicFest and in the Dora Stouzker Hall, RWCMD.
Eligibility Criteria: All applicants should have a home base in Wales and be aged between 15 and 21 years on 31st August 2014. No formal qualifications are required, but applicants are required to submit a portfolio of work (two original compositions) in support of their application.
Auditions: Auditions will take the form of group workshops where you will be required to complete a creative musical exercise. There will also be a short informal interview involving a discussion around your existing portfolio, your creative ideas and your musical influences.
