BASCA announce details of the fifth British Composer Awards Student Competition as part of the 2014 British Composer Awards. To apply, students (who must be aged 26 or under on the closing date and be registered to study music at a UK conservatoire or university) must submit an original work of 4 to 5 minutes duration for two of the following five brass instruments: trumpet 1, trumpet 2, horn, trombone or tuba. The winning work will be performed by members of the internationally renowned ensemble, Onyx Brass, at the British Composer Awards ceremony in London on 2 December, and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in a programme about the Awards. The closing date for applications is Thursday, 21 August 2014 Attendees at the ceremony typically include promoters, publishers and performers of new music, so the competition is a valuable opportunity for student composers to have their music heard by members of the contemporary music community, and by the wider public in the form of the BBC Radio 3 audience.
