 VQ New Works Competition
Summary:String Quartet Competition
Deadline: 12 May 2014
Date Posted: 05 March 2014
Details: The Villiers Quartet announces the 2nd VQ New Works Competition for 2014. This competition is open to an international field of new and emerging composers writing for string quartet.

The field will be narrowed to 6 works, which will be video recorded and posted on the Villiers Quartet website for online audience vote. The top 3 finalists from this round will have their works performed at Kings Place, London, UK by the Villiers Quartet on September 21st, 2014. The winner will receive the prize of £1000 and a studio recording of their piece, plus inclusion of their work into the Villiers Quartet repertoire for upcoming seasons.

Composition Requirements:
All composition entries must be original works written for string quartet instrumentation: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello.
You may choose to write in whatever form you want, and there is no limit to the number of movements. For instance, you might be inspired to write a one movement rhapsodic interlude. Or you might follow the classical multi-movement form as laid out by Haydn. The floor is wide open. The duration of the piece must not exceed 20 minutes.
Deadline for submissions is Monday, May 12th, 2014.
We encourage you to be experimental. Most of all, we want to hear your music.
