Getting it Right? 2013: Contemporary Music Conference

The Contemporary Composer and the Orchestra

In collaboration with Guildhall ResearchWorks and Centre for Orchestra, Julian Anderson, Professor of Composition at the School, brings together leading figures in contemporary music including Mark-Anthony Turnage, Hans Abrahamsen, Stephen Maddock, Helen Grime, George Benjamin, Dr Julian Philips, Colin Matthews, Judith Weir, Richard Causton and others, to explore the relationship between the Contemporary Composer and the Orchestra.

Getting it Right? 2013 is a chance to examine the changing relationship between those who create orchestral music and those who play it. Calling on the resources of expert orchestral composers from many countries, of leading conductors of new orchestral music, on the experience of leading orchestral managers and players, we shall attempt to discover what’s going on, what’s going wrong, and what we’re getting right.

Tickets: £25 (concessions £10) available now from the Barbican Box Office. Tel: 020 7638 8891 (http://www.barbican.org.uk/education/event-detail.asp?ID=14248)
