Details: SUBMISSION CATEGORY:
A composition for chamber orchestra, either previously performed or not performed yet, but which has not received any prizes. The composition should be scored for between twelve and seventeen instruments, comprising at most 1 flute (piccolo, alto/bass-fl), 1 oboe (cor anglais), 1 clarinet (Eb/bass/contrabass- cl, bassett horn), 1 bassoon (contrabassoon), 1 horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 tuba, 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass, 1 saxophone (soprano/alto/tenor/baritone-sax.), 1 piano (celesta), 1 percussion (1 player) and 1 harp. Submission is limited to one composition per composer.

ELIGIBILITY: Any nationality. Composers must be less than 40 years old as of June 23, 2018.

DURATION: less than 15 minutes

DEADLINE: June 23, 2018 (Postmarked)

ENTRY FEE: None

AWARD: 500,000 Japanese Yen

Note: Only one work will be awarded as a result of the final judges’ decision.

SUBMISSION DETAILS:
Composer should submit the followings:
1) Application Form (download)
2) Score (on printed paper only — no electronic documents acceptable)
3) Explanation of the work (maximum 1 page)
4) An audio recording if available (audio CD only)
All materials should be sent to the IRINO PRIZE FOUNDATION, Japan. All scores will be kept in the archive of the JML.

PERFORMANCE:
The winning composition will be performed by Tokyo Sinfonietta in its subscription concert series.
The instrumental parts for this performance must be provided by the composer.

 INTERNATIONAL UUNO KLAMI COMPOSITION COMPETITION

Details: The International Uuno Klami Composition Competition has won itself an established position as one of the world’s foremost composition competitions. Held at intervals of five years, the aim of the International Uuno Klami Composition Competition is to discover and promote contemporary European music and composition under the name of composer Uuno Klami (1900–1961) and to produce good new repertoire for a small orchestra of sinfonietta type. Citizens of any Nordic, EU or closely associated country may take part in the competition. Works entered for the competition should reach the Competition Office by 3 December 2018 at the latest. The works shortlisted for the finals will be performed by the Kymi Sinfonietta at two finals concerts, to be held in the cities of Kouvola and Kotka (Finland) in autumn 2019.

Summary:

- Compositions must be submitted to the Competition Office 3 December 2018 at the latest.
- The Jury will be Finland’s Kalevi Aho and Magnus Lindberg and Estonia’s Erkki-Sven Tüür. The conductor member of the Jury will be Olari Elts (Estonia).
- The following prizes will be awarded: I prize €11,000, II prize €9,000 and III prize €7,000.
- There is no age limit or entry fee.
- The works shortlisted for the finals will be performed by the Kymi Sinfonietta at two finals concerts, to be held in the cities of Kouvola and Kotka (Finland) in autumn 2019. The Jury chooses the winners only after hearing the finals concerts and their rehearsals.
