Profile Norwegian composer. Early on in his compositional career he tried to redefine modernism through his music by extending traditional, complex ‘modern’ elements into larger structures, combining them with an active musicianship; Founded the Oslo Sinfonietta. Works also as a teacher and is a steady contributor to music magazines. Received commissions from IRCAM, Paris and other important performing institutions; his prizes include the Gaudeamus Foundation`s Louis Vuitton prize in 1991.
