Profile Pete Canter is a well known tenor saxophonist and composer working on the UK jazz scene. In 2005 he was awarded a mentoring grant by Artsmatrix to study jazz composition with internationally renowned saxophonist/composer Iain Ballamy. He writes mainly for small jazz combos. In 2008 his suite "Outside In" performed by Pete Canter`s October Quintet was an award winner in the Exeter Autumn Festival.He is interested in experimental and contemporary classical music and in exploring their boundaries with jazz. He was commisioned to write "Sketches" a suite combining jazz quartet with strings and a brass section for the Exeter Vibraphonic Festival 2010. His album of original tunes for jazz quartet "Ununbium" was released in 2010 and received excellent reviews from The Musician and Jazzwise magazine.
