Tickets: £10 (concessions £8) includes a glass of wine. London Concord Singers
Malcolm Cottle (conductor)
From Advent to Epiphany, a programme of Christmas music which takes you from the Annunciation through to the journey of the Magi. London Concord Singers Christmas concert presents the Christmas story told in an exicting mixture of renaissance and contemporary pieces.Sacred motets for Advent and Christmas are mixed with three contemporary pieces, by Cecilia McDowall, Luc Jakobs and Robert Hugill.
McDowall's Advent carol, Annunciation, presents the Angel Gabriel appearing to Mary, Jakobs Dormi Jesu depicts the sleeping Jesus and we finish with the world premiere Robert Hugill's cantata The Magi. Hugill's cantata sets a text based on a sermon given in 1622 by Lancelot Andrewes. This is a text which inspired T.S.Eliot's poem The Journey of the Magi but Hugill has returned to the original sermon to create brilliant dramatic choral flourish.
Robert Hugill : The Magi Cecilia McDowall : Annunciation Luc Jakobs : Dormi Jesu Giacomo Meyerbeer : Pater Noster Felix Mendelssohn : Ave Maria
