Felicity Hayward (soprano)
Catherine Herriott (piano)

Premières of settings for soprano and piano of English, French, Spanish and Japanese poetry from the Middle Ages, the 19th & 20th centuries, plus piano solos.

A rare opportunity to hear fresh song settings from five contemporary composers, distilling their responses to poetry spanning different centuries, languages and cultures. The poems range from the love-struck, bittersweet and nostalgic to the haunted, mystic and sometimes humorous. The pieces for piano vary from richly dramatic to picturesque and evocative.

Felicity Hayward brings her consummate artistry as a singer to each of the song settings and is accompanied by an outstanding pianist with an impressive list of performances to her name: Catherine Herriott.

This concert is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and their outstanding work with cancer sufferers and their families: http://www.macmillan.org.uk

The venue is the historic church of St Mary Magdalene, graced by the last stained glass window designed by Pugin. It stands a few minutes’ walk from Warren Street and Great Portland Street tube stations.
