‘One of Britain’s greatest living artists,’ says The Guardian of Oliver Knussen, ‘he has added beauty to the world.’ Now, in his 60th birthday year, we’re delighted to welcome him back to Birmingham for a concert that tingles with colour. Ravel’s sumptuous homage to Schubert and Berg’s Klimt-like Altenberg-Lieder (both written in 1912), together with Debussy’s gorgeous Nocturnes, provide a stunning setting for Knussen’s own extraordinary Whitman Settings, sung by the magnificent Claire Booth.
