London Concord Singers
Malcolm Cottle (conductor)

For their summer concert, London Concord Singers present a sequence of music ranging from Weelkes, Palestrina and Lassus, through Vaughan Williams and Howells, to Gabriel Jackson and Cecilia McDowall. The centre piece of the concert is a rarely performed mass by the 16th century German composer Hans Leo Hassler. His Missa Octava a 8 is written for double choir and uses poly-choral techniques which Hassler learned from his friend Giovanni Gabrieli whilst studying in Venice. Gabriel Jackson uses poly-techniques, but in a modern idiom, in Cecilia Virgo, which was written for the BBC Singers. Also in the concert will be Herbert Howells early Salve Regina, written for Westminster Cathedral and Vaughan Williams haunting Three Shakespeare Songs

Cecilia MacDowall : Deus, qui claro lumine
Gabriel Jackson : Cecilia Virgo
Ralph Vaughan Williams : Three Shakespeare Songs
Herbert Howells : Salve Regina
