Ravi Shankar, who this year celebrates his 85th birthday, premiered his Sitar Concerto No. 1 in London; tonight it is performed by his daughter and protégée Anoushka. Delhi-born Param Vir's 1994 BBC Philharmonic commission is named after the mountain at which an 11th-century Tibetan saint attained enlightenment. The concert closes with a sequence of evening ragas.
