Oliver Knussen, a great admirer and interpreter of Max’s music, conducts his choice of Max’s works. Revelation and Fall sent shockwaves through the musical world in the 1960s. Blind Man’s
Buff, from the 70s, is an intricate puzzle of identities. And in the recent De Assumptione Beatae Mariae Virginis, Max reflects on ideas of the Virgin Mary down the ages, questioning the medieval notion of the Virgin’s physical ascent into heaven. What emerges is a profound symphonic experience.
