Music from three composers who settled in the United States, Schoenberg, Rachmaninov and Weill whose suite from his Threepenny Opera, complete with 'Mack the Knife', gets the concert off to a rousing start. Australian composer Brett Dean is the soloist in the world premiere of his own Brahms-inspired Viola Concerto.
