Locrian Fugue is part of a collection of fugues written in each of the other modes. All of these fugues were composed during the winter months of 2005 and each contains a short, melodic subject and answer, and three brief contrapuntal episodes.
The fugues within this collection have been kept within the 9th position, so as to be accessible to any guitarist at an intermediate level and above. As well, each fugue has been fingered so as to be practical for the guitarist, without sacrificing the overall clarity of the contrapuntal texture. This particular fugue is contemplative in nature and in compound time for the most part. Its lengthy, tonally meandering final episode provides a nice contrast to the fugal material, while providing the necessary time and space for the establishment of the home key, B Locrian.
