The two-movement Sonata for Solo Cello was written for Scottish Cellist Philip Higham. It was first performed in November 2006 during the opening concert of of the Royal Northern College of Music/BBC Philharmonic's joint-festival of music by leading British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, 'Lullabies and Shouts'.
