James Douglas Biography

‘James Douglas’ (b. 1932-), originally from Edinburgh, now resides in Ullapool, Wester Ross. Classical Composer of over 2,000 works for Piano, Flute, Soprano, Cello, Organ, Choir and more…The music of James Douglas reveals his intense love of the mountains, glens, lochs and rivers of the North West Highlands of Scotland, which have inspired much of his music… “Since June, 2001, I have been on a creative burst of writing unparalleled in my lifetime. These pieces are dedicated to many people who have helped, guided and inspired me over a long period. I do this with gratitude. I am now writing a new sequence of 33 pieces entitled ‘The Glorious Sequence’ which will be for my ensemble ‘The Glorious Company.’ (James Douglas 2007). On November 17th 2006, I launched a unique selection of music entitled: ‘The Highlands and Islands Sequence’ which comprises 66 works written between 1968 and 2006, all depicting and written for this stunning and most special area. ”
