Johan de Cock was born in Namibia in 1975. He studied classical piano performing, harpsichord and composition at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa from 1994 - 1996, and made his performance debut with the CAPAB Orchestra in 1996, playing Liszt's 'Totentanz'. A champion of modern music, Johan has premiered many works by distinguished South African composers including Arthur Wegelin, Peter Klatzow, Johann Cloete, and Bongani Ndondana. His own compositions have been recorded by Afrimusiek record label in South Africa, and his electronic compositions have been featured on the British television series, 'Free Spirit'. Recent commissions include 'Reflections on a Baby Star' - a Christmas song cycle for soprano, piano, and electronics, commissioned by St Ethelburga's Centre for Peace and Reconcilliation in London in 2005.
