Simone Spagnolo was born in Salerno, Italy. At the age of five he began studying music. He was soon performing in concerts receiving acknowledgements and prizes in competitions for young pianists.
During his adolescence he greatly broadened his experience of music exploring different genres and attending concerts and operas in the most prestigious theatres of his region including the famous Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
In parallel with his piano studies Simone developed a passionate interest in the jazz, participating in seminars and courses both nationally and internationally, about improvisation, arranging and composition. His teachers include the double-bass player Eddie Gomez, the drummer Roberto Gatto, the composers Nicola Piovani, Michael Abene and Ezio Bosso and the musicologists Sergio Miceli and Stefano Zenni.
A skilful pianist from a young age he showed a keen interest and natural flare for composition. For two years Simone followed the Berklee College of Music piano and composition summer courses, organized as part of the Umbria Jazz Festival. He was selected from a highly competitive list of young European composers to participate at the International Seminar of Composition for Film “Strade del Cinema Film Festival” in Aosta (Italy).
On completing his high school studies, he moved to London, where he is now specializing in composition and orchestration at London Middlesex University and with the composer David Charles Martin and in conducting at Morley College.
Among his awards he has the distinction of being the first “Asia America Symphony Association” Orchestra Composition Prize Winner outside of the United States.
Simone has already written numerous compositions, some of which have been performed by internationally known musicians including the Allegri String Quartet.
His style is made of a fusion of classical structures and ideas with jazz influences in all three elements of music: melody, harmony and rhythm.
