Segnali 2018 | Open Call for audiovisual works, live audio-video performances and harpsicord and electronics (live or fixed media electronics) SEGNALI 2018. AUDIOVISUAL AND PERFORMANCE ARTS EIGHTH EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL IN PERUGIA, ITALY, 2nd to 5th MAY. Entry proposals are being accepted for audiovisual works, live audio-video performances and harpsichord and electronics (live or fixed media electronics) for the eighth annual international electronic music festival, Segnali � Audiovisual and Performance Arts, which will be held from 2nd to 5th of May. Works created within the last three years are eligible and welcome to be submitted for consideration. Final pieces must be no longer than 15 minutes in duration for audiovisual work, although proposal documentation regarding live performances may last up to 30 minutes. Selections may be successful this year, or the committee may choose to defer some successful pieces until next year's programme. Pieces for harpsichord and electronics must be no longer than 10 minutes. Each video submitted for selection must be accompanied by a full technical specification sheet written in English or in Italian, with the following details: - the creator(s) of the images (only for video works) - the creator(s) of the music and sound - a short biography of the creator(s) (max 500 characters including spaces) - a short synopsis describing the work (max 500 characters including spaces) - country/countries of production - year of production - duration of the work in minutes and seconds - the original digital format - specifications for the video projection of the work - three pictures (JPG 300 dpi) of the work and one of the authors - authorisation to use extracts of the work for promotional purposes only - authorisation for the treatment of personal data used during the selection process. Submission for harpsichord and electronics must include: - title of the work, year and duration - program notes / project description (max 500 characters including spaces) - a short biography (max 500 characters including spaces) - stereo MP3-formatted audio files - performers required (please state if you intend to bring your own) - performance scores, in PDF (if applicable, even if the performer is provided) - technical specifications. There is no registration fee however shipping expenses are responsibility of participants. The work being submitted for consideration must be received no later than Friday the 30th of March 2018 and may be sent by post, uploaded, or transferred online in high quality video formats (HD, H.264, mpeg4, mpeg2, mpeg, mov, avi). The purpose of this call is to encourage composers to find creative new ways to convey scientific ideas through their music. Participants are invited to submit new pieces for piano trio (pno, vln, vc) with a duration between 5� and 15� minutes, with or without electronics. The pieces have to be inspired on any of the concepts, data or audiovisual material (images, animations, graphs) available online at www.soundsof.net/materials. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS � Commissioned Works We are seeking landscapes, real and imagined. One Quiet Plunge, an organization devoted to new music performance in New York�s Hudson Valley, is commissioning one to three new works on the theme of place and landscape for premiere in August 2018 on our program country/�/city/�. Blending found sounds and video footage of the landscapes of the Valley with newly commissioned works that create �imaginary landscapes� from the same material, the program will explore what place can mean to each of us. Commissioned works will be for viola, piano, and electronics (or a subset thereof) and will be premiered by violist Christiana Reader and pianist Alex Peh. The chosen composers will be student or emerging composers of any age living or studying in the Hudson Valley (an emerging composer is defined as someone who does not have a track record of regular performances by professional ensembles). The fee for each commission is $200. Interested composers are invited to submit any materials that give a sense of the piece you hope to compose, including prose descriptions, sketches, and (especially) recorded soundscapes or viewscapes of the landscape your piece would be reacting to. Composer should also submit 1-2 scores representative of their instrumental writing and music in general. Any aesthetic will be considered. There is no fee to submit. CALL FOR ENTRIES UNM John Donald Robb Musical Trust 8th Biennial International Commission Competition OVERVIEW � Award: A $3,000 commission will be awarded for the selected composer by the University of New Mexico John Donald Robb Musical Trust. The commissioned piece will be premiered during the UNM John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium, March 28-31, 2019. � Eligibility: There is no age limit, and composers from around the world are welcome to apply. One entry per person is permitted. The winning composer must agree to be present and participate in the Composers' Symposium for the acceptance of the award and the performance of her/his/their composition. People affiliated with the UNM Robb Trust are not eligible to compete. � Application: Composers are asked to submit up to two scores for solo or chamber ensemble. Submitting recordings is recommended but optional. For works involving electronics, a recording must be submitted. See "How to Apply" for instructions � Selection & Announcement: A panel of judges will select a composer to receive the commission and will send a contractual letter of agreement to the winning composer. If this composer declines the commission another one will be selected. The winning commission will be announced on the Robb Musical Trust website in the spring of 2018. All accepted applicants will receive notification following the announcement of the winner. COMMISSIONED WORK � Stipulations: 1. The commissioned work will be a solo or chamber work, the exact instrumentation of which will be negotiated with the Co-Artistic directors. Works with electronics can use up to four loudspeakers plus 1 subwoofer. Electronic needs beyond audio playback must either be provided by the composer for performance or negotiated in advance with the Robb Symposium directors. 2. The composition must be between 6 and 10 minutes in length. 3. Source Material Requirements: 1. The commissioned work must make use of folk-song material or a derivative thereof from the John Donald Robb Archive of Southwestern Music in the Center for Southwest Research, UNM Zimmerman Library. Materials are also available at the UNM College of Fine Arts Library. A link to the folk-song source material can be found here. 2. This source material may include Robb transcriptions/arrangements of folk songs, such as those found in Hispanic Folk Songs of New Mexico or Cancionero: Songs of Laughter & Faith in New Mexico by John Donald Robb. 3. This source material may not include Robb original compositions. 4. It is the entrant's responsibility to be aware of any copyright issues that may exist. 4. To receive the commissioning award, the score and parts must be delivered by January 1 of 2019. 5. The Alba Rosa Vi�tor Foundation is pleased to announce the distinguished jurors who will be selecting the 3rd Alba Rosa Vi�tor Composition Competition prize winners. Our jury is a truly international group of composers, representing a broad range of styles in contemporary music. We are grateful to them for sharing their time and expertise, and for their commitment to support the next generation of composers. Chairman of the Jury is Dutch composer Willem Jeths. He will be assisted by the English composer Tansy Davies, Italian pianist and composer Paolo Marzocchi, German composer Manfred Trojahn and Greek composer Calliope Tsoupaki. The Alba Rosa Vi�tor Composition Competition is part of the Alba Rosa Viva! Festival, named after the Italian composer, violinist and pianist Alba Rosa Vi�tor. The Alba Rosa Vi�tor Composition Competition 2018 invites composers to submit an original work, not exceeding 9 minutes, for one singer (soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, countertenor, tenor, baritone or bass) and piano trio (violin, violoncello and piano). Inspired by Shostakovich�s wonderful and unique Alexander Blok suite, we would like to encourage young composers to write for this combination of voice and instruments. The organization will select composers who will have the opportunity to participate in the International Composers� Competition WITOLD SZALONEK from 6 to 7 June 2018 in the city of Kwidzyn (Poland). The composers� selected works will be performed in two final concerts during the II Kwidzyn Music Spring International Festival. Regulations Article 1 � Object The Phasma-Music Foundation hereby announces the First Edition of the WITOLD SZALONEK International Composition Competition. WITOLD SZALONEK - born in 1927 in Czechowice-Dziedzice, died in 2001 in Berlin, Polish composer. In 1949-56 he studied at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice. Following his first successes at international composers' competitions, he received a grant from Kranichsteiner Musikinstitut in Darmstadt (1960). In 1962-63 he continued his studies with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. In 1967 he began to teach composition at the Katowice School and in 1970-74 was in charge of the Department of Composition and Theory. In the early 1970s he was invited by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst to work as artist in residence at West Berlin's Hochschule der K�nste. In 1973 he won the competition to succeed Boris Blacher as Professor of Composition there. He has conducted numerous seminars and courses in composition in Poland, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Slovakia. In 1990 he received an honorary doctor's degree from the Wilhelmian University in M�nster. In 1963 Szalonek discovered and classified the so-called 'combined sounds' generated by the woodwind instruments. He is also the author of theoretical studies on a wide range of subjects, including combined sounds, sonorism, Chopin and Debussy.
