Composers from around the world are invited to write new music for percussion duo. A committee of experts will select four compositions which will be premiered and recorded by the Popocatepetl Percussion Duo on February 15th 2020 in the “Casa della Musica” of Trieste, Italy. Prizes One of the four compositions selected will be awarded a first prize of € 1000, donated by the “Fondazione Libero e Zora Polojaz” Professional recording of the four winning compositions at the “Urban Recording Studio” Aim To broaden the repertoire for percussion ensemble To stimulate composers to explore this field To give composers an opportunity to get their works professionally performed and recorded To expand the network of participants for further collaborations The works -Each work should last between four and fifteen minutes. -The use of audio and/or video tapes and live electronics is allowed. -Composers may submit a maximum of three works. -Only works for percussion duo that have neither been performed professionally nor published as of September 23rd 2019 shall be accepted. Composers can choose instruments from the following list: • 2 five octaves marimbas • 2vibraphones • 1xylophone • 1glockenspiel • 2 timpani • 2 kick drums • 2 snare drums • 8 tom-toms • several cymbals • 2 sets of wood blocks • 1 tam-tam • 6 small thai gongs (EU notation: c#’, e’, f’, c#”, e”, f”) • 1 octave of crotales • 2 tambourines • 1 wind chimes • 2 triangles • junk percussion For any questions about instrumentation please contact us at percussionpremiere@gmail.com Application form The application is open to composers of all nationalities with no age limit and with no limit on composition style. Composers whose works are selected will be invited to the concert and hosted for the day of the performance, but they must pay their own travel expenses. The application fee is 50€ and corresponds to the membership fee for the Cultural Association PIROKLASTIKA for the year 2019. Non EU (European Union) citizens will have to bear any additional costs for the bank transfer.
