Details: International Composition Workshop for String Orchestra in Vienna

As part of the Isolda Composition Foundation, applications are open internationally for artistic and professional development workshop for early-career composers up to the age 30 years. A peer-mentored workshop where 3 participants will be selected from a pool of applicants and attend the competition workshop.

Opportunity to work with the Viennese Moonlight Symphony Orchestra towards an Orchestral or solo newly composed 6-minute piece for Strings (3:3:2:2:1) over one workshops held in Vienna.

Professional Development Session and Competition Workshop

Workshop: Sunday 12th of May 2019 at 2pm – work in progress and performance of the newly composed pieces at the post workshop Concert.

The workshops will be a supportive environment for developing your work with our Viennese Orchestra made up of young performers graduated at the leading Conservatoires in Vienna and London. The first day-long workshop will be an opportunity to get to know the players, try out ideas and get feedback on sketches.

We strive to develop the creative, technical and stylistic skills for composers through a program of tailored compositional briefs, mentoring from renowned professionals, rehearsals, recordings, and public performance opportunities. The HUB will be led by Prof. Mag. Dirk D’Ase from Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

Applications are now open with a closing date 10th of April 2019.

Non-refundable application fee: 60€

Prizes:

The 1st Prize Winner will receive a commission fee of 500€ and receive 1 year of Composition Residency with the Moonlight Symphony Orchestra in Vienna and London.
2nd and 3rd Prize Winners will have their pieces performed by the Orchestra in Vienna and London in 2020.
How to Apply A brief cv, a letter explaining your interest in working with the orchestra and a sample of your work (pdf of the score *NAME REMOVED*) and audio material should be submitted by the 10th of April 2019 via email to isolda@moonlighsymphonyorchestra.com.

Notes: Your scores and the letter should be submitted with your name removed. The personal statement should tell us why you are applying for this opportunity, how you see it contributing to your development as a professional composer, and what particular ideas or techniques you would like to explore in your new work for the Orchestra. Your CV (separate document, with your name on it) should indicate your education status and list your previous performances and workshops attended.
