The Saint-Petersburg Contemporary Music Center «reMusik.org» announces the VI St. Petersburg International New Music Festival, taking place from May 20th — 26th, 2019. The reMusik.org Festival is a point of intersection where the diverse world views of contemporary composers meet at a crossroads of musical paths that have emerged in the past few years. The festival program has numerous highlights; instead of relying on the form of traditional concerts it will be additionally offering composition course, master classes, scientific conference, presentations, forum, educational lectures and workshops.

The Composition Course will be held from May 17th — 26th in St. Petersburg. This creative composing lab is an exciting opportunity for young and emerging composers from around the world. Twenty-five composers will be selected through a portfolio application process to meet and work with honors composers and internationally-acclaimed ensembles invited to this year’s festival.
During the 9 days, the Composition Course gives participants access to distinguished composers, concerts, and masterclasses while affording each participant ample time to compose in a relaxed environment and enjoy the famous White Nights Season in St. Petersburg, Russia!

ELIGIBILITY

All composers age 18 and over

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All applications must be submitted online. The jury will select 25 composers into three groups*:
6 Composers (Group A), 14 Composers (Group B), and 5 Composers (Group C). Each group gives participants a possibility to advance their skills through the following opportunities:


Group A
● 3 hours of individual lessons (One lesson with each tutor);
● Performance and professional recording of their work at one of the festival concerts;
● 45-minutes presentation of their work;
● Access to all events and concerts.

Group B
● 3 hours of individual lessons (One lesson with each tutor);
● Performance a part of their work during 1—2 workshops/reading sessions with soloists and ensembles-in-residence;
● 45-minutes presentation of their work;
● Access to all events and concerts.

Group C
● 3 hours of individual lessons (One lesson with each tutor);
● 45-minutes presentation of their work;
● Access to all events and concerts.

Free Auditors
Auditors are welcome to join the St. Petersburg International New Music Festival. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to learn from the accomplished artists and be immersed within the excitement of the Festival. All auditors receive all the benefits of observing experienced artists working with students. They will additionally have access to all concerts, and events.

The Festival is definitely a good reason to come to St. Petersburg in May. Participating at this event will give you an opportunity to see St. Petersburg with the eyes of the insider and enjoy the famous White Nights Season on St. Pete’s Bridges!

* You may apply for multiple selection groups.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS


In addition to the application form, please submit the following:

Group A
● 2-3 scores (submitted electronically in .pdf format via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Recordings of 1-2 works (submitted electronically via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Biography.

Notes:
At least one of the scores must to be submitted for one of the following lineups:
– flute, clarinet, oboe, violin, viola, cello, piano, percussion (1-5 performers)
– piano and string quartet (1-5 performers)
– 2 pianos, 2 percussionists (1-4 performers)

Adding electronics to each lineup is possible, but before you submit your application, please send your technical rider to check the details.

Composers admitted to the composition course (Group A) must send, no later than Friday, March 15th, 2019, the score and the instrumental parts of the piece to be used for performance in the concert.

Group B
● 2-3 scores (submitted electronically in .pdf format via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Recordings of 1-2 works (submitted electronically via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Biography.

Notes:
Applicants are requested in the below list to select two of the available instrumental lineups for participation in the workshops/reading sessions (the selection committee accepts 1 or 2 of them):
flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion (1-6 performers)
alto saxophone, soprano saxophone (one soloist)
2 pianos, 2 percussionists (1-4 performers)
flute, oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, cello (1-6 performers)

Composers admitted to the workshop (Group B) must send, no later than Friday, April 5, 2019, the score and the instrumental parts of the piece to be used for participation in the workshop.

Group C
● 2-3 scores (submitted electronically in .pdf format via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Recordings of 1-2 works (submitted electronically via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Biography.


PARTICIPATION FEE

Group A: €540
Group B: €430
Group C: €290
Free auditors: €150

Payment can be made in two instalments: after selection results and upon arrival to Saint-Petersburg.


INCENTIVES

1— 3 Participants will be selected to be performed on the next Festival in 2020 and their work to be published by Edition reMusik.org.


REQUIREMENTS

● English Language
● International students will receive an official invitation to the festival from the Saint-Petersburg Contemporary Music Center "reMusik.org". Students living in countries that have visa services with the Russian Federation, must apply for their visa, independently, at the nearest embassy or consulate of the Russian Federation.
● Travel, housing, living costs and visa expenses are the individual responsibility of the participants and reMusik.org is not responsible for paying that.


APPLICATION DEADLINE

● Group A: 1st March 2019 (The results will be announced on Tuesday, March 5th, 2019);
● Group B: 15th March 2019 (The results will be announced on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019);
● Group C: 10th April 2019 (The results will be announced on Monday, April 15th, 2019);
● Free Auditors: 25th April 2019.

There’s no application fee.
