Summary:Young Composer Competition
Deadline: 31 December 2018
Date Posted: 06 December 2018
Details: Introducing ION, a composer competition designed to give a voice to emerging talent. We are developing a fully unique Dallas choral voice through passion, exploration, and innovation, putting Dallas at the forefront of choral innovation in the United States.

High school and undergraduate composers, ages 13-25, who are currently living or attending school in the Greater Dallas Area (Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman, Rockwall, and Tarrant counties), are invited to submit original compositions for a 16-voice SATB choir. The works should focus on innovation, creativity, and the cultural diversity of Dallas proper. Entrants may submit up to 3 choral pieces (no longer than 6 minutes in duration recommended). Works should be all or mostly unaccompanied. Creative uses of percussion, multi-media, or multi-sensory elements (i.e. dance, movement, spoken word, technology, audio-visual components) are encouraged.

A $10.00 entry fee is required for the first piece; $5 for each additional piece. Submissions will be accepted via registration form online. Students who cannot afford the entry fee will have the option to apply for scholarship funds in the application.

Winners will be announced in early January and will receive a prize package, which will include one $250.00 cash prize for the winner and public performances at Verdigris Ensemble’s “Faces of Dallas” concert series in April 2019, sponsored in part by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s SOLUNA festival. Additional works may be recognized for honorable mention, with possibility of future performances. Verdigris Ensemble reserves the right not to select a winner.
