Details: ACM (www.acmusic.org) will be working with the Open House projects in Milwaukee and Chicago again this year. Open House started in London as a celebration of the city's architecture and has spread to cities throughout the world.

We commission composers to write short pieces inspired by some of the buildings and then have musicians in the buildings to play the music every fifteen minutes or so as people come through. We also hire a videographer to capture the performances.

The event is popular, each building is generally attended by several hundred people throughout the day. This year there are three buildings in Milwaukee and two in Chicago for which we're commissioning music.

The commission fee is $500. The piece should be between four and five minutes long and scored for a duo drawn from the following instrumentation: flute, clarinet, violin, cello.

Below you'll find information about the buildings included in this year's projects and links to videos from previous years so you can get a real sense of what it's about. If you're interested in writing, please respond to this email with a CV and score sample.

Oh yeah, the deadlines are tight. It took longer than usual to get approval from the buildings this year so there is a fast turnaround unfortunately. We do this every year so if this is too intense please consider submitting for next year when hopefully we'll be back to normal.

Deadline for Milwaukee is September 10
Deadline for Chicago would be October 5

You don't have to live in either city to participate, just do some research and be inspired by the history of the building. Please do remember that there is always ambient noise in these buildings so scores with a lot of silence tend not to work well unless that's what you're going for. Just a note. Thanks!
