Ministry of Culture, is conducting the Fourth Open Composition Competition of Creating Symphony Music for Children Peter and the Wolf-2018 (hereinafter referred to as the Competition).

The Competition has been launched in 2006, and was the first musical competition in Russia initiated by a symphony group – Ural Philharmonic Orchestra.

Conditions

In order to participate in the competition, the authors must submit original compositions of a program/descriptive nature (music with a narrative element) written for the children's audience.

Duration – equal or less than 15 minutes.

Instrumentation: from small symphony orchestra to triple cast symphony orchestra with specific instruments. A narrator’s part is acceptable. Singers and choir are not provided for.

The Competition is open to authors of all ages.

The works are eligible for competition if they have never been performed publicly, nor published by publishers, or awarded at other competitions. It is allowed for the authors to submit more than one work for the consideration of the panel of judges.

The authors of the works are not limited to the academic genre; the works written in various styles are accepted for consideration.

The competition is held anonymously, the submissions should be marked with a motto.

The music materials submitted for the competition (scores and orchestral voices) do not get returned.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

The competition is held in two rounds.

Musical works consistent with conditions of the competition are accepted in the first round. The Committee has the right to invalidate an application which is not consistent with the conditions of the competition:

Applications are submitted from April 1, 2018 to August 20, 2018.
The first round of the competition is held from August 25, 2018 to September 20, 2018.
The first round of the competition (applications processing and selection for the second round) is completed no later than September 20, 2018.

As a result of competition submissions reviewing, the Panel of judges will select up to 5 (five) works for participation in the second round of the competition.

The results of the first round will be published no later than September 25, 2018 on the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic website, www.sgaf.ru. All finalists will receive a notification letter from the Committee by e-mail.

The second (final) round of the competition, announcement of the competition results and award ceremony will be held on October 13, 2018 in the Great Concert Hall of the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic.

Authors’ works that have been selected for the second round of the competition will be performed by the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra in a concert program on stage of the Great Concert Hall of Sverdlovsk Philharmonic.

Authors of the works that that have been selected for the second round are welcome to attend the final concert on October 13, 2018.

The finalists of the competition are awarded the titles of winners or diploma winners.

The distribution of prizes takes places after the 2nd round, according to the results of the authors' works live run-throughs.

PRIZES AND AWARDS

The prizes of the competition are the conclusion of copyright contracts with participating composers for the amount determined by the terms of the competition.

First Prize - the author's contract with the composer-participant of the 2nd round in the amount of 150,000 (one hundred and fifty thousand) rubles and the title of the winner of the competition;

Second Prize - the author's contract with the composer-participant of the 2nd round in the amount of 120,000 (one hundred twenty thousand) rubles and the title of the winner of the competition

Third Prize - the author's contract with the composer-participant of the 2nd round in the amount of 90,000 (ninety thousand) rubles and the title of the winner of the competition

Authors, whose compositions participated in the second round of the competition, but were not awarded with the prizes, receive the diplomas of the competition.

An Audience Choice Award may be established at the competition.

Competition sponsors, co-founders and partner organizations may establish special prizes for the contestants, upon agreement with the Committee.

The authors participating in the second round of the competition transfer all rights for the final round’s broadcasting, recording, and further distribution, with no remuneration paid to the contestants.

APPLICATION AND WORKS SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Competition submissions are accepted until August 20, 2018 (as indicated by the postal stamps or the e-mail date of sending) to the following address:

The submission to the Committee should include the following:

Envelope No. 1:

Score and orchestral parts on a CD (in either Sibelius or Finale notation software);
Score and orchestral parts in printed form;
CD with a demo of the composition (computer or piano).
For the Panel of Judges’ easier access to the Competition submissions, it is required that scores, orchestral parts and demo recordings be forwarded as electronic files or links to the following e-mail address: project@sgaf.ru .

Full Name;
Date and place of birth;
Full postal address,
Phone number and e-mail address;
A short biography (in free form);
A photograph of 10x15 cm size;
Consent to personal data processing
Only Motto is to be indicated on both envelopes.
