The ICon Arts Transilvania Academy (Romania) calls for project proposals for the Composer In Residence program, open for young artists from all over the world.

Mentors & opportunity
During 19th–27th July 2017, six composers will be invited to Transilvania (Romania) to actively participate to the preparation of the chamber work concert (vibraphone with string quartet, up to 8 minutes each), with the Romanian vibraphone player Alexandru Anastasiu (soloist of the Romanian National Radio Orchestra), and the RTÉ ConTempo – quartet – in – residence (Ireland).

The selected composers will also have the chance to participate to a composition workshop held by internationally awarded Romanian Poland-based artist Cristian Lolea (Winner of the First Prize – „The Roads of Romanticism”, Warsaw, 2007; Gopo Prize for film music, 2008; Special Prize – George Enescu International Composition Competition, Bucharest, 2009).
The works will be premièred in Sibiu during the ICon Arts Festival, at Thalia State Philharmonic Hall and broadcasted through internet live streaming on Enjoytv.Ro.

Eligibility
The call for applications is open to all composers aged under 35 (in April 2017).
Entry fee: 50 Euro.

▪ Short Bio (1 page max.).
▪ Recommendation letter (scan) from a well-known composer
▪ A PDF score of a previously written work and its recording in wav/ mp3 file, or soundcloud/ personal page link
▪ Short description of the proposed work for vibraphone and string quartet (max. 10 lines)
▪ Proof of payment for the 50 Euro entry fee

Timeline
The selected composers following the first phase will be announced here, on the ICon Arts website, starting from the 6th of April, 2017.

Among the finalists of the first phase, one scholarship winner will be announced on the ICon Arts website, starting with April 12th 2017.

After receiving the results, the remaining five selected composers will pay the participation fee of 650 Euro into the organizer’s account, no later than 10 days after the announcement (the fee covers accommodation, meals, composition workshop and performance-related costs for the period 19th – 27th of July). In case of one’s payment delay, the place will be reassigned to a composer-in waiting. The scores of new works for vibraphone and string quartet will be delivered no later than the 1st of June, 2017. This will allow both composers and performers to stay in touch via email and prepare for the working sessions in July.

The scholarship winner will benefit from local transportation, accommodation, 2 meals/ day during July 19th – 27th, plus a 500 Euro gross fee.

Copyright
The winners of the ICon Arts composer in residence program will authorize the organizer (Exces Music) to use the respective works free of charge for future recordings, performances or any other purpose, without any restrictions. They also agree to mark the score with the following: “Piece written for the ICon Arts Academy Composer in Residence Program – Sibiu, Romania, 2017”.
