10 young composers are invited to write a short sketch for orchestra using non-traditional orchestral writing, seeking new concepts of orchestration. After a work session with the composer Toshio Hosokawa, these sketches will be read for 50 minutes each by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Prior to these sessions, Toshio Hosokawa will invite the young composers to analyze three emblematic works from the 20th century orchestral repertoire together.

Selected composers must (under penalty of loss of student status):
- commit to writing an original score that using non-traditional orchestral writing, seeking new concepts of orchestration with the following characteristics:
has never been performed by an orchestra between 3 and 6 minutes long
- pay all registration fees in full before Tuesday, January 17, 2017
- send the conductor score by e-mail before Tuesday, March 14, 2017
- send their scores by e-mail before Tuesday, April 11, 2017 (conductor and other parts separate)

Students can choose all or a part of the instrumentation, excluding works for orchestra and soloist. In the case the strings are divided, students should not write more than two parts per music stand (v1, v2, a, vc, cb).

2 flutes (one of whom also plays the piccolo), 2 oboes (one of whom also plays the English horn), 2 clarinets (one of whom also plays the bass clarinet), 2 bassoons (one of whom also plays the contrabassoon), 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones (including 1 bass trombone), 1 timbalier, 2 percussionists, 1 harp, 1 celesta, strings 7/6/5/4/3

1 5-octave celesta, 1 glockenspiel (Fa5-Mi8), 1 marimba (4 octaves 1/2 Fa2-Do7), 1 vibraphone (3 octaves Fa3-Fa6), 1 xylophone (4 octaves Do4-Do8), bongos (pair), 1 snare drum, 1 bass drum, 1 Basque drum, 1 military drum, 4 toms, 2 tumbas, 1 wooden drum (4 tones), cowbells (2 octaves), 1 tubular bell (1,5 octave), crotales (2 octaves), 5 cymbals, crash cymbals (1 pair), gongs (high octave), 2 tam-tams, 2 triangles, 1 bamboo chime, 1 metallic chime, temple blocks (set of 10), wood blocks (set of 5), claves, 1 guiro, maracas
