Call for Scores

The Washington State University School of Music is pleased to announce a call for scores for the 2017 Region 8 Conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. The conference will be held on the Pullman campus of the Washington State University (www.wsu.edu) in the beautiful Palouse region of eastern Washington.

Selected composers must be current SCI members. Preference will be given to members within Region 8. Student submissions are welcome and encouraged. Submission of works for which the composer can provide performers is welcomed.

Composers may submit up to 2 works for any of the listed performers (exceptions being works in which performers will be provided by the composer).

Works should be less than 20 minutes (movements of longer works acceptable). All scores and recordings (MIDI recordings are acceptable if no live recording is available) should be submitted through the Music Avatar website.

The deadline for submission is Nov. 1, 2016. Composers whose works will be performed at the conference will be notified via email no later than Jan. 1, 2017.

We especially encourage works to be submitted for our featured conference ensemble, the Post Haste Reed Duo: saxophone (soprano/alto/tenor) and bassoon: http://posthasteduo.com

Works for the following WSU ensembles may be submitted:

Post Haste Reed Duo (saxophone and bassoon)

Solstice Wind Quintet (standard wind quintet: flute/picc/alto flute, oboe/Eng. horn, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Horn in F, bassoon/contrabassoon, or any subset thereof)

Crimson Brass Trio (horn in F, tenor trombone, and F tuba or any subset thereof)

WSU Madrigal Singers or Concert Choir (chamber or large SATB chorus)

WSU Chamber Orchestra (maximum orchestration 2222 2200 timp 1 perc strings — no harp is available)

WSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble (standard concert band instrumentation or any subset thereof)

Works for the following instruments (with or without piano) may be submitted:

Flute/Picc/Alto flute

Oboe/Eng horn

Clarinet/Bass clarinet

Bassoon/Contrabassoon

Soprano, alto, or tenor saxophone

Horn in F

Tuba/Euphonium

Tenor voice

Electroacoustic sound, and/or video, and/or live instruments (up to 8 channels)

Composers and presenters who are selected for this conference are required to remit a registration fee and must agree to attend the festival. Regrettably, SCI is not able to offer travel stipends or honorariums to conference participants.
