Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Placement, Royal Shakespeare Company
Summary:Theatre composing job
Deadline: 25 October 2016
Date Posted: 27 September 2016
Details: Delivered in collaboration by Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network

Through the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer scheme emerging composers are paired with a venue, and given the opportunity to be involved in a range of work which could include underscoring plays, setting text to music or creating their own piece of new work.

This placement is being offered at the Royal Shakespeare Company and will most likely be spread across two three-month projects. The exact timetable and the projects to be worked on will be agreed in consultation between the selected composer and the venue’s Artistic planning team, but it’s expected the successful applicant would be based in Stratford upon Avon for a significant portion of the six months.

Key opportunities are likely to include:

•Creating incidental music for 2 new plays staged at The Other Place (T.O.P.)

•Assisting the Composer on a Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST) production of a Shakespeare play, subject to creative team appointment.

•A period of R&D, including working to a brief on projects for the RSC Education & Literary Departments

•An opportunity to pitch a project for R&D & workshop showing at The Other Place

To be eligible to apply: you must be a composer who has already had at least one professionally produced piece of musical theatre (which can include paid work for a drama college or other training institute) – along with other work. Ideally the successful applicant will be based in Stratford upon Avon for the duration of the placement periods, as well as potentially some rehearsal in London. Applicants must be resident in the UK to be eligible.

It is essential that the applicant has a good working knowledge of Sibelius notation software.

The successful recipient will receive an all-inclusive fee of £11,000.
