Panufnik Composers Scheme

 Panufnik Composers Scheme
Summary:Orchestral Opportunity
Deadline: 24 January 2017
Date Posted: 07 September 2016
Details: The Panufnik Composers Scheme is an exciting initiative offering six emerging composers each year the opportunity to write for a world-class symphony orchestra.

It has been devised by the Orchestra in association with Lady Panufnik in memory of her late husband, the composer Sir Andrzej Panufnik, and is generously supported by Lady Hamlyn and the Helen Hamlyn Trust.

Under the guidance of renowned composer Colin Matthews, the scheme enables composers to experiment over time and develop their orchestral writing skills. Composers form collaborative musical relationships with LSO players as well as having their compositions put under the microscope by the LSO and François-Xavier Roth in a public workshop rehearsal – a major learning curve.

Applications are now open for the 2017 Panufnik Composers Scheme. We are looking for six composers to take part, working towards a three-minute commission for the London Symphony Orchestra.

Each will receive tutorials from Colin Matthews (Composition Director), input from Christian Mason (Composition Support), support from LSO players, and open access to LSO rehearsals and concerts, enabling each composer to experiment over time and develop their orchestral writing skills.

Your participation will begin with a two-day induction on 12 & 13 March 2017, including composer introductions, workshops with LSO players and developing public presentation skills.

The scheme culminates with a public workshop on Sunday 18 March 2018 during which your three minute work will be rehearsed by François-Xavier Roth and the London Symphony Orchestra at LSO St Luke’s.
