Details: The composer Harald Genzmer (1909-2007) was a member of the staff at the University for Music and Performing Arts Munich from 1957-74. As a teacher and mentor, he was an inspiring and influential figure for several generations of composers. His artistic legacy is the foundation he set up which bears his name. Beginning with this announcement, his foundation, in association with the University for Music and Performing Arts Munich and in collaboration with the Deutscher Musikrat: Jugend musiziert will hold a composition competition biennially to encourage the study of Harald Genzmer's music. In his spirit, newly-composed works should be "vital, artistic and comprehensible - practical to win over the interpreter, then accessible for the listener." (Harald Genzmer, 1978).

Entrants
The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities
Partners and first-degree relatives of jury members are excluded from the competition.
Scoring / Requirements
The composition is to be a duo for flute and piano. The winning works should be suitable as repertoire pieces for the »Jugend musiziert« competition announced by the Deutscher Musikrat.
Level of difficulty: III (medium difficulty).
Works submitted must be unpublished, that is they must not have been publicly performed, broadcast, published, or copied or circulated in any other way. They should not exceed 10 minutes duration.

Jury
The jury will provisionally comprise: Prof. Dr. Bernd Redmann and a teacher of the HMT, Gideon Rosengarten and a representative of the Harald Genzmer Foundation

Prizes
Up to three prizes may be awarded. The first prize is 3000 Euros, second prize 2000 Euros and third prize 1000 Euros.
To encourage wide circulation of the winning work(s), they will be published by Musikverlag Schott Music or Edition Peters (in agreement with the composer).

Entry Competitors are requested to submit the following documents:
five copies of the work (all identified by a four-digit number; do not include your name on the work!); the work should be digitally created or otherwise clearly legible.
a sealed envelope bearing the four-digit number and containing name, date of birth, brief cv and address (including email) and a declaration that the work has not been performed, broadcast, published or copied or circulated in any other way.
If any of these documents is missing, the work cannot be considered for the competition.

Announcement of the prize-winners
May 2016

Premiere
The award-winning works shall be premiered in Munich (20 October 2016)

Further conditions of entry
After the jury's deliberations, one copy of the score will be retained for the archive at the Harald Genzmer Foundation. Only if specially requested will the remaining scores be returned to competitors by normal post (please indicate in the sealed envelope if you want this). Neither the Harald Genzmer Foundation nor the University will accept any responsibility for loss in transit. The names of competitors will remain anonymous. Only the names of the prizewinners will be published following the jury's decision. There is no legal recourse regarding enforcing claims in relation to this competition, or in the event that it does not take place or the prizewinning works are not performed. By submitting a work competitors agree to these conditions of entry.
