Details: The Burlington Chamber Orchestra, known for providing opportunities for young musicians, will host a competition for emerging young composers. The winning piece will be performed by the Burlington Chamber Orchestra led by the guest conductor Maestra Kayoko Dan, the music director of Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra at their Celebration of Youth Concert at the University of Vermont Recital Hall on May 14, 2016. We seek compositions for chamber orchestra written by composers up to 25 years of age. The winning composer will win a $250 travel stipend and a public performance in Burlington, Vermont. Submission deadline is November 15, 2015 with the announcement made on January 15, 2015 with a rehearsals and performance the week of May 11-14, 2016 in Burlington, Vermont. Entry fee is $25 (non- refundable). All entries will receive written feedback from the judges. Complete information and application are available at www.bcovt.org.

Description:

To promote new music for chamber orchestra written by young composers age up to 25. The winning piece will receive a performance by BCO on May 14, 2016 concert. All entries will receive feedback from the judges.

Requirement:

1. The competition is open to composers who are born after June 1st 1991 who resides or studies in the U.S.
2. The composer must be enrolled in an undergraduate program or below
3. The composition may use up to 2 flutes (1 piccolo can be doubled), 2 oboes (1 English horn can
be doubled), 2 clarinets (1 bass clarinet can be doubled), 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani
and chamber orchestra size strings (66441). No soloist.
4. The piece must be between 5 to 8 minutes
5. The piece must be an original composition for chamber orchestra, not a transcription or an
arrangement of the composer or another composer's work
6. A composer must submit
a. Two printed copies of full score (condensed scores will not be considered)
b. A recording (quality MIDI realizations are acceptable) in CD or a downloadable link
c. A program note and bio
d. Application form
e. Non-refundable $25 entry fee. Checks must be payable to Burlington Chamber

7. All entries must be received by November 15, 2015
8. The winning composer must
a. Provide engraved parts by March 1, 2016
b. Provide publicity photograph
c. Attend the rehearsal and concert on May 14, 2016. The winner will receive $250 in
travel stipend.
d. Cooperate on publicity effort such as radio interviews
