This year, we are pleased to announce the beginning of an annual competition to commission a new carol for performance in the Candlelight Carol Service. Composers are invited to submit unpublished and unperformed choral works for consideration. A review committee, comprised of Hendrix faculty and leading choral conducting professionals from across the nation, will select a winning composition that will receive its premiere in this year's Candlelight Carol Services. Additionally, the winning composer will receive an award of $1,000 and up to $300 in travel reimbursements to attend one of the performances. Composers wishing to enter the competition must submit a finished composition in PDF format by August 1, 2015. Dr. Morgan will review works for completion and adherence to competition guidelines, and will compile a short list of up to 10 works for the committee to review. The winning composer will be notified by September 15, 2015. This year's competition committee includes: Dr. Stephen Caldwell, Director of Choral Activities, University of Arkansas Dr. Matthew Mehaffey, Associate Director of Choral Activities, University of Minnesota Dr. Karen Griebling, Professor of Music, Hendrix College Dr. Andrew Morgan, Assistant Professor of Music & Conductor of the Hendrix Choir, Hendrix College A Hendrix College music student (to be determined) Specific guidelines for the competition and submission process may be found here.
