This is an invite to take part in an Institute For Alien Research compilation, themed Avant Garde ; contemporary classical music. Looking for organic, analogue, acoustic sounds to the foreground. contemporary composition, contemporary classical elements accepted; light processing, editing etc 1. Duration; 8 to12 minutes long 2. think Avant Garde classical, Musique Concrète. These are guidelines, really the compilation will be shaped by what comes in. Pieces should be experimental; as in non formulaic. The term "experimental" is used in conjunction with genre names to describe music within specific genres that pushes against their boundaries or definitions, or else whose approach is a hybrid of disparate styles, or incorporates unorthodox, new, distinctly unique ingredients (Anon. [n.d.]a). Similarly, it has sometimes been used to describe "transethnic" music: the mixture of recognizable music genres. The term avant-garde is applied to music when it is considered "ahead of its time" by critics or fans, i.e., it contains unique or original elements, or it explores unusual fusions of different genres. 3.
